New flooring in three days: The Strandkorbprofis exhibit UZIN Plurafilm Hydro enables fast renovation without waiting times
Every day counted during the expansion and redesign of the Strandkorbprofis showroom in Buxtehude. Business had to be disrupted as little as possible during the renovation phase – and the flooring had to be laid quickly. Norman Krüger from Krüger Fußbodenbau mastered this challenge with an innovative installation system: UZIN Plurafilm Hydro – a dry adhesive with an integrated moisture barrier that can be laid on substrates with residual moisture and is immediately walkable. In just three days, his three-person team laid 700 m² of designer flooring directly onto the hall floor. A practical example that shows how modern installation systems make time-critical shopfitting projects possible even on substrates with residual moisture.

The Strandkorbprofis are a popular beach chair manufacturer in Buxtehude. After ten years, it was time to expand the product range to include garden furniture – and with it, a renovation and expansion of the showroom. The floating laminate flooring also urgently needed to be replaced. Rolling heavy beach chairs back and forth had left its mark, with wide joints visible. “We needed an attractive, robust floor covering that could withstand everyday use in a furniture showroom,” explains builder Nils Gosebeck. The floor installation should not take too long, and the area should be usable again quickly.
Installed on grounded floors without a complex epoxy vapor barrier
The biggest hurdle: the hall floor had no vapor barrier. Rising moisture from the ground would have caused massive damage to any directly bonded design flooring. When Norman Krüger, managing director of Krüger Fußbodenbau in Neu Wulmstorf, inspected the hall, he quickly realized that a standard installation would unnecessarily delay the schedule. “On the smoothed floor, we would normally have had to shot-blast, apply an epoxy vapor barrier, and fill the entire surface,” Krüger calculates. “That would have taken at least a week—plus drying times. And during that time, you can't do practically anything in that area.”
“The new Uzin solution saves us a huge amount of time.”
The solution came from Uzin: Plurafilm Hydro, a product that had only been on the market for a few months. “It is the first dry adhesive that combines a moisture barrier and adhesive,” explains Tim Maas, technical consultant at Uzin. The double-sided adhesive special film from the switchTec range eliminates the need for moisture measurements and can be laid without any restrictions on the residual moisture value – regardless of whether on heated or unheated substrates. “This means a huge time saving,” says Krüger, summarizing the decisive advantage. No time-consuming substrate preparation, no noise, no dust, no drying phases lasting several days.
Three days installation time: roll out and stick directly onto the concrete floor
Krüger set to work with a team of three. The team first dampened the concrete floor and began with the narrow 5 cm wide edge tape along the walls. They then rolled out the 75 cm wide strips and pressed them down with a float. “The ergonomic handling is extremely user-friendly,” says Krüger, describing his experience. “No mixing, no application with a toothed spatula, just roll out and press down.” A decisive advantage in the workflow: the open time is unlimited, and the room can be entered at any time during installation. “We didn't have to worry about drying time, we could interrupt the work if necessary, take breaks, and continue working elsewhere,” explains the floor installer. “This greatly reduces stress on time-critical construction sites.” The craftsmen laid the vinyl tiles directly on Plurafilm Hydro. After three days, the entire floor area was finished. This was followed by the installation of the baseboards. No waiting for setting times, no unpleasant smells, no weeks of closure. The flooring was immediately walkable and fully load-bearing. “Behind the guys, goods could already be put back into the store“, says Tim Maas. "The rapid completion of the floor was important for the entire renovation process,” explains Nils Gosebeck. “This allowed all employees to continue working seamlessly.”
Protecting the environment, saving time, reducing costs
The fact that this solution eliminated the need for a costly epoxy coating is not only good news for the client financially, but also for the environment. UZIN Plurafilm Hydro is low-emission, free of hazardous substances, and carries the Blue Angel eco-label, meaning it is safe to use in indoor areas with high public traffic.
“From shot blasting to sealing with epoxy resin to filling, we would have needed many additional steps,” calculates Tim Maas from Uzin. “This system eliminates all of that – and with it the associated costs and waiting times.” For Norman Krüger, the math is clear: “Less material, shorter construction time, satisfied customer. It's a win-win situation.”
The floor in everyday use: designer flooring from Project Floors
For the new exhibition space, Nils Gosebeck chose a vinyl design flooring from Project Floors – specifically the ST 941 decor from the floors@work collection in a concrete look. “Gray tones in a concrete look are in high demand in many areas,” reports Svenja Bends from Project Floors' marketing department. “This decor is one of our bestsellers.” With a use-surface of 0.55 millimeters, the floors@work series is specially designed for commercial areas with medium to heavy traffic – perfect for a showroom with heavy customer traffic and rolling exhibits. Design floorings combine the authentic look of natural materials with the practical advantages of vinyl: robustness, water resistance, and easy cleaning. Sustainability was also an important aspect for Gosebeck. The floor coverings contain only phthalate-free plasticizers, are low-emission, and have the SHI product passport - the central digital verification document for material research in the context of building certifications such as DGNB or BREEAM. Ideal in a room with a lot of public traffic.
Test passed: Optimal solution for shopfitting
Several months have passed since installation. The floor has to withstand daily customer traffic, rolling beach chairs, and garden furniture - and shows no traces of wear. “The flooring looks like it did on the first day,” says builder Gosebeck happily. “And cleaning is easy - just wipe it, and you're done.” Norman Krüger is also more than satisfied with the result: “Especially in existing buildings, there is often residual moisture in the subfloor. With UZIN Plurafilm Hydro, you are safe during installation.” The floor layer sees great potential for the system in all areas of shopfitting: “Wherever speed is important and rising moisture is to be expected in the subfloor, this dry adhesive is the ideal solution.” Nils Gosebeck sums it up: “It is the perfect method when you need to work quickly and precisely. The three days of installation time fit seamlessly into our overall renovation schedule. I would do it again anytime.”
