Renovation of a Historic Apartment in Vienna
Located in a charming Alt-Wien building in the 1090 district of Vienna, this 85 m² apartment underwent a complete renovation, transforming it into a modern private residence while maintaining its timeless elegance. To achieve the perfect flooring, a 2-layer oak herringbone parquet was chosen and fully bonded, complemented by matching Swiss-style baseboards—a quintessential choice for an Altbau apartment.

CHALLENGES AND REQUIREMENTS
This renovation presented several challenges that required meticulous planning and advanced flooring solutions:
- Significant level differences in the newly poured screed, necessitating the use of UZIN NC 182 for spot leveling and FusionTec levelling compound UZIN NC 580 for overall leveling.
- Time constraints, where the fast-drying UZIN NC 580 proved indispensable.
- Some areas of the screed were freshly poured, requiring:
- UZIN PE 414 BiTurbo as a primer for rapid curing.
- UZIN PE 280 for non-absorbent subfloors.
- Cracks and movement joints, especially near doorways, were decoupled with UZIN RR 203 and then leveled using UZIN NC 182.
- Full-surface bonding of the herringbone parquet with UZIN MK 200 ensured a durable and high-quality finish.
Solution
To address the challenges, a step-by-step approach was implemented:
- Leveling the subfloor:
- Significant level differences were corrected using the stable low-slump cementitious rapid repair mortar UZIN NC 182 for precise spot leveling.
- The fast-drying FuisionTec premium leveling compound UZIN NC 580 was applied for an even surface across the entire apartment.
- Primer solutions for varying subfloor conditions:
- Freshly poured screed was primed with UZIN PE 414 BiTurbo to ensure rapid readiness.
- Non-absorbent areas were treated with UZIN PE 280.
- All cracks and movement joints were decoupled with UZINRR 203, providing long-term stability.
- Herringbone parquet installation: The oak parquet was fully bonded using UZIN MK 200, delivering a premium, stable finish.
