Concentrated floor expertise at the Orange Campus "Success needs good grounding"

The preservation of most of the existing vegetation makes the Orange Campus a “green campus.” Landscaping on three levels and floor-to-ceiling windows connect the interior and exterior. This allows athletes and visitors to enjoy the view of the park and river while eating and training.

With its athletic lab, sauna, and wellness area, the fitness center offers professionals and guests a variety of training and relaxation options across approximately 1,100 m². The durable and attractive vinyl design floors from Project Floors, installed with the non-water-soluble 1 component hybrid adhesive UZIN KE 68, provide the ideal flooring for the fitness area and changing rooms. The easy-care planks impress with their excellent performance characteristics and an authentic wood design in light oak – similar to the wood flooring on the basketball court, which, however, was bonded with UZIN KE 66 wet-bed dispersion adhesive, which is suitable for these requirements. In the executive offices, the high-contrast design in an elegant dark pine wood look creates a modern, distinctive appearance that is also robust, easy to clean, suitable for allergy sufferers, gentle on the joints, and warm underfoot. “We were involved in the discussions from the very beginning and were able to choose from the entire Uzin product range,” explains Thomas Rang from Parkett- und Fußbodentechnik Rang in Blaustein, whose team carried out the complete subfloor preparation and professional installation of the floor coverings. “We know that the installation materials are reliable and quick to use – on both small and large areas.”

Large areas, many floors, tight schedules, multiple trades: time was short because the difficult construction site situation after the lockdown had delayed the floor work, but the move-in date was set. Therefore, the areas had to be accessible quickly and dry reliably. Work was carried out in sections of 1,000 m². After sanding and priming the screed, the filler was mixed and pumped into the respective areas via the scaffolding and window openings. This had to be done quickly so that the filler did not set. The low-tension and therefore extremely flowable cementitious leveling compound UZIN NC 160 facilitated rapid processing over large areas. “A level substrate is particularly important for the installation of elastic design floor coverings,” confirms Sven Noffke, Key Account Manager at Project Floors. “The appearance of the floor is only as good as the substrate.” After one day, the filler was walkable and after two days, vinyl planks had been laid on around 400 m². 

Another special feature was the 240-meter-long indoor running track, which runs around the large hall like a gallery. The flooring installation team experimented with different methods for installing the rubber sports flooring in a shear-resistant manner and ultimately opted for a system design using parquet adhesive. The precast concrete elements were first primed, then the concrete joints were bonded with the hard UZIN universal adhesive, and finally the entire surface was filled. Two layers of the sports flooring were then bonded and the floor was finally sealed with the transparent RZ Turbo Protect Zero varnish, also from UZIN UTZ.

UZIN also provided support with its extremely shear-resistant textile adhesive for the installation of over 1,000 m² of needle felt and deep-pile carpeting in the conference rooms. Its fast setting time and high early and final strength were extremely useful on the construction site, where deadlines were tight.

“We worked with a wide variety of products – according to a detailed floor plan for the entire usable area – and completed the flooring work on time,” explains Thomas Rang. “It was only because I know that UZIN UTZ products work that we were able to complete the work on campus safely and on schedule.” This also applies to the leveling compound, which the team pumped onto the construction site and processed into a level substrate over an area of more than 5,000 m².
